Kick starting blood orange season with one bloody big seasonal feast!

2 September 2016

It’s no surprise that at Sauce we love fresh produce especially when it’s grown in our heart and home – the Riverina – which is why we were ecstatic to jump on-board and help Redbelly Citrus mark the start of the blood orange season at one of Sydney’s most revered Italian restaurants Lucio’s in Paddington.

Sauce’s PR and event gurus locked in a media luncheon to showcase the incredible versatility of the blood orange. It was a day full of colour from rich crimson flower arrangements with pops of bleeding blood oranges to a three course meal of kingfish, duck and cannoli.

William Grant & Sons joined the feasting festivities with Solerno brand ambassador Evonne Eadie mixing up various blood orange cocktail flavour combinations including their signature drink the Solerno Serata on arrival.

Lucio Gallatto OM addressed the crowd explaining his love of blood oranges that stretches back to his childhood in Italy, before Len Mancini Director of Redbelly Citrus took the floor to share the many benefits of blood oranges and his affinity with the unique fruit.

Nicole Bampton, head chef of the Two Hatted restaurant, crafted the three course menu using the first pick of Redbelly’s 2016 crop. Diners were wooed with a fresh first course of Crudo di Pesce – kingfish carpaccio with blood orange segments, fennel, verjus, watercress and olives in a blood orange dressing.

The main – Anatra All’arancia featured a classic combination of orange and duck. Two succulent duck legs marinated in blood orange juice served with grilled radicchio, roasted beetroot and a blood orange sauce.

And to finish the feast, diners noshed on Cannoli di Cicollolato – a thin, crisp chocolate cannoli shell filled with a light blood orange mousse served with a chocolate blood orange sauce, while Evonne Eadie shook up some Solerno Blood Orange Espresso Martinis to complement.

Sauce made sure that our guests not only left smiling but they also left with a goodie bag full of blood oranges and their own bottle of Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur. The event was a bloody huge success, securing multiple media mentions and sending social media abuzz with blood orange praises!
