A bloody good season for citrus
12 September 2017
Blood orange season is upon us and we’ve been busy securing national coverage for client Red Belly Citrus!
Red Belly is dedicated to producing blood oranges that resemble those of their Sicilian heritage. There is only a brief window that blood oranges can be produced, as they require a very specific growing environment. The key is location, location, location. The Riverina is the perfect spot for growing blood oranges as the region provides the optimal weather and temperature conditions, placing the trees under enough pressure that it produces that rich red colour and health benefits.
The health benefits of eating a single blood orange are vast, so we’ve gathered some of our favourite bites of information.
What Red Belly has named “VitaminRed” is a combination of phenolic phytonutrients that research has found to have anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity and anti-cancer properties. One blood orange provides 9 times the antioxidants of navel oranges, provides the recommended daily intake of vitamin c and antiaging benefits thanks to its ability to offset the effects of UV radiation.
